Detaching Feather Duster

Hi Y'all,
I have discovered a feather duster tube (with a cool looking red trimmed duster in it) coming out from underneath a small colony of gonipora coral. How can I safely detach the little feller and move him someplace? I am getting ready to fire up some new power compacts and need to move the coral back down in my tank a bit and don't want to bury him in the sand.....

detached feather, came back in 2 weeks,
greedy shrimp.... yes i removed the feather before it started to decay
