detrivores

I had been cycling my 55 gal w/ UFG and CC w/ (4) damsels, and 35 Lbs of LR for 3 weeks now. Highest ammonia was .5 and highest nitrate was 10. Both went to zero fairly quickly. Yesterday I made the switch to a 4” DSB and got rid of the UGF. Ammonia is back to .5 and Nitrates are 10. Nitrites have pretty much always been zero. PH and salinity are good. Once the ammonia and nitrates are back to zero, can I add a detrivores kit? I was concerned that perhaps my tank has not cycled yet as I never saw really high ammonia readings of 4 or more, or nitrates of 20 or more. Before I did the DSB last night, I had brown algae growth on the CC bed. So can I add the detrivores when the ammonia and nitrates zero out, or has my tank not cycled?

You lost some good bacteria when you did the switch that is why your levels went back up. I would wait until they come back to 0 before adding anything else to the tank.
