Devil's Hand Leather question

I bought a Devil's Hand Leather a few days ago and it looks fine, except that it only gets the little branchy growths during the night. During the day it's just smooth. Does that sound right? I thought the branchy growths come up during the day.
Here's are my water params if it helps:
Density: 1.025
pH: 8.4
Phosphates: 0
Alkalinity: 10 dkh
Calcium: 420
Ammonia: 0
Nintrite: 0
Nitrate: <5
T5HO lights with individual reflectors (3 actnic, 3 10,000)
Could it be that it's annoyed by my flame angel? I noticed he was picking at it during the first day, but he didn't do it today.

Those are the coral polyps. They should be coming out with the lights on, normally. It can take corals several days to get adjusted to a new tank, so don't panic, but make sure the angel isn't bothering it.

Not sure I can do anything about the angel picking on it. Haven't seen it do it lately but if it keeps up, I'll have to find the leather a new home. Really strange that the polyps only come out at night, then they retract when the lights come on.
