Is the added cost of Deionization worth the benefit? And what would that Real World benefit be?

The DI module can remove some things that RO cannot. That includes phosphates and silicates. The RO will only remove some of that stuff. It strips a lot of junk out of the water. Make sure to keep the cartridge up to date. You can get color change DI cartridges so you'll know when to change them.
