can the the goby live off the sand alone, seems he is not intersted in anything i try to feed him

Have you tried live brine shrimp? I have one of the golden head gobies that wouldn't eat for almost a week. I added some live brine shrimp soaked in Selcon Fish Food Booster and after trying a couple he couldn't get enough. After two days I switched to mysis shrimp soaked in Selcon and now he eats this too. I have found that he won't eat any foods soaked in garlic (at least not yet). I thought for sure this fish was going to starve to death but now he is doing great. Good luck with your fish.

i will have to try some live food, its hard also because my clown eats most of the food before it gets low enough for the goby

Feed a little more so the clown can not possibly get it all. I just bought my diamond on Saturday and I saw him for the first time eat mysis and plankton. Just a thought. ***)
