Does anyone have experience in using a diatom filter? Does it work well? If so, for what size aquariums......
Thanks in advance,
Mark

I have used the magnum canistar 300(350) filter as both a diatom and carbon filter media. Diatom filters are considered water polishers. They take out almost every large particle! However, they are both messy, and a pain in the tail to run. I ran mine with diatoms twice the whole 7 years I have had it, otherwise I kept charcoal in it. Why did I run it with diatoms? Dunno, just had the ability to do it, so I did.

Mark; I have used the whisper diatomagic diatom filter for years and really like it (so much so I bought a second one last year). It does polish and clean water and is easy to use. I use it mainly on my Puffer tanks due to the mess these fish make of a tank. It also will (when used with the right diatom powder) remove small particles that other filters can not remove. In some cases it will even help remove unwanted parasitic characters that are in the water itself. I really consider it a good item to have in ones supply cabinet.
