I just recently purchased a smart light from custom sealife its a 48" light and came with a duel 2- piece light set up. It came with 2 blue actanic bulbs and 2 regular 10,000k flouresent, my lfs the one I work at said it is the best light on the market.... they said it was vital to my corals survival is this true..... I'm a new salt water enthusiast with little knowledge on equipment.... does anyone know where I can get a good used wet/dry for my 55 gal??

First,PC's are far from the BEST light on the market. But for smaller tanks they are hard to beat.Second,Smartlights are a combo of blue and white light in the same bulb,if yours are not this, you may have been took.

yes Mr.Salty it consists of 2 bulbs each bulb is half and half but I was just wondering is this light going to be "all that" it is a 48" smart light. I payed about $211.00 for it, they said that my tank would not go through an algae cycle with this light, is that true i dont understand the whole "pc" thing what is that?? Forgive me for my ignorance

..."they said my tank would not go through an algae cycle with this light." Hello??????
I just wanted to address this statement. No one can make this statement! If such a light was on the market it would put every other manufacturer out of business!!
ALL tanks go through a natural process, and the whole algae cycle is just part of the journey. In fact, it is a GOOD thing in the long run.
"PC'S" are power compacts and are powered up by an electronic ballast.
PC is good, but like Salty said, is far from the best.
Geez.........no algae cycle......

Well the tank i am refering tooo is one of our maintenance tanks, they set up 2 tanks at the same time one with the so called smart light and with normal flo. lights. The one with the smart light did not have an obvious algae cycle the other had a brown algae attack, I know they all go through the cycle I'm not completely stupid just curious if this light was a good investment while I still have the chance to take it back.

Hey now..........
I wasn't inferring AT ALL that you were stupid rabid frog. I WAS inferring that maybe you did not get good information and I was trying to help in that regard.
Now if you really want my .02, I'd take the PC back, and invest in some really GOOD lighting, such as VHO or Metal Halide, since you asked.

I wish everyone would stop knocking PC's, they do a good job and are not expensive to run and they don't give off alot of heat.

Not everyone knocks PC's. They are an excellent choice for some applications.
I should know I had them. HAD them.
I now have VHO and there simply is NO COMPARISON on MY application.
Yes, there is a difference.

Thanks for your .02 up north, but i simply cant afford the lights that hang from the ceiling for one reason, I live in an appartment and I dont think they would appreciate me wiring lights from the ceiling. Plus I dont want all those wires runnig down my wall because I cant wire them from the ceiling, and I know you were't saying I was stupid, it was just to rouse ya a little and I didnt mean any harm, but thank you for the input and I will keep the mh lights in mind when I buy my house.
