I have 7 fish in my tank including 1 yellow tang, 1 powder brown tang, 1 niger trigger, 1 flame angel and used to have 3 Percula clowns. All 3 of the clowns have died about a week apart. I had the water tested by a lfs several times before introducing fish. It was cycled with damsels for 6 weeks. It is a 55 gal tank with 20 lbs of live rock. I have noticed the water is green looking from the side view for the past few weeks. All other fish are active and doing well. Are clowns harder to keep alive? I am on a well and I have installed a RO unit under the sink and am using this water for water changes which I have been doing every 2 weeks.(10 gallons) I have a protein skimmer and a 125 Pro Clear wet dry sump. Am I in danger of losing my other fish if I do not react? I acclimated all the fish with the drip method.
I am new to saltwater and have read alot but I am still wet behind the ears. Any advise woud be great?
salt is 1.023
ph is 8.3
temp is 76 to 78
nit/nit is around 10

You're definately in danger of losing all your fish. The only ones that are suitable for a 55 are the percs and the flame angel. And the flame angel shouldn't be in a newly established tank. I would bring them all back and start over.

I guess I did not read enough or read the wrong material. These fish were ordered on line through saltwaterfish.com and I emailed them before ordering the fish and asked if this combination was ok and suitable for a 55. The answer was yes.

Yellow and Brown tang will get to 7-8 inchs, The niger trigger will get to 10-12 inches, the flame angel is ok but the tank is very young , the percs probably died from stress ! Sorry about your fish! We all do this in the beginning! I can't see where you could have enough filtration on that 55 to handle the bioload for the tangs and trigger, they all poop up a storm!

I would really try to find a larger home for the tangs and trigger .
Now let me say, I Have 9 fish in my 60 wide!
2 mated perc clowns, 2 6 in engineer gobies, diamond goby, scooter bleeny,
Lawnmower blenny oh yes and my scoal tang!
I can honostly say it is to many fish! But it seems to work, I have to do regular water changes 10-15 gal a week, had it this way for over a year!
They all have thier specific jobs, I think there is the balance!
Here comes the flame!
rememeber just take your time and let the tank mature naturally!
