Difference between elec. and magnetic

Okay, so I 'm tryin to find lights for the 55 and I find myself confused. What is the difference between the magnetic pulse start ballasts and the electronic ballasts and which is better? I assume the electric because it costs more, but that isn't always the case. Oh, will a 250 watt 10000k Ushio be okay for sps? I only have one med sized frag, its growing like crazy under PC's and I want to keep it! Thanks,

The electronic ballasts run more efficient. They also (from what I've heard) run the bulb better. I have magnetic ballasts and I happy with them... As far as the 250w... I would get 2- 175 instead. Having two bulds on a 48" (??) tank would give you more even lighting. 2- 250w would be cool .

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning toward two 250 watt 10000 or 5500 k's. Gotta do more research and figure out how to mount them. I wish I could afford a ready mad hood that would just plug in!!!! Oh well, what fun would that be! thanks again

just bought dual 250 watt kit with ballast, only set me back 250 bucks seems like a good deal. I think I will go with 10000 k ushios. I hope my shrooms won't be too unhappy.
