Hey guys, I just ordered a male blue throat trigger online and I just wanted to know what the big difference is between a male and a female. The one I received has yellow around its fins but doesn't have a distinct blue throat. It's color is also a lighter blue than expected. Any help would be great! thanks...

If it's got some yellow in it's fins, it's a male. Females don't have any. How big is it? Complete coloration takes a good amount of time in this fish, sometimes all the way to 4" I've seen non-complete colored males. What color blue were you expecting for the body? They're all naturally a blue slate color.

i believe there is 2 types of Blue throat males. The male Hawaiian crosshatch has the distinctive blue throat while the normal male just has the yellow fins. And females are plain blue.

LOL, but what in the world are you talking about?

There is only one type of blue throat (Xanthichthys auromarginatus).
A juvenile Crosshatch (Xanthichthys mento) will have a yellow edging on it tail, but not on it's other fins. If it turns male, the tail with turn red and the fins with gain yellow edging. Or if female, it will stay in that coloration, though the body color on any of them is not really blue in any sense.

It's only about 3", but today I took a pic of him and it is now apparent that he is definetly a male. I guess the flash of the camera brought out his colors.I swear, you can't see the blue throat on him with the

eye, here's a pic of it, and thanks for everyone's help.
