Digital temp gauge

I got a digital temp gauge from my grandpa. He used it for reading the temp outside there house(had it placed in the screened window. It also has the option for inside use. My question is how can i use this for my tank? If the fan or AC or window is open its not going to give a correct reading. I taped the sensor on the back of the tank near the bottom. so its away from lighting and filters. Its battery operated so what would happen if i put the sensor in the water in the tank?

Depends on the sensor but most that I have seen are plastic electronic sensors and they would probably just corrode or short out and quit working. The metal ones are generally made out of copper, aluminum, or stainless all of which are not good inside your tank.

I found it online after searching. Here is what they said about it (The thermometer measures exterior temperature to -40 degrees F and has a 10-foot long weather resistant temperature probe that’s also submersible!
So i would say i'm good to go
