"Dirty" clown

A few months ago, I was having some water quality problems & I took my percula clown to my LFS since my Q-tank wasn't fully cycled yet. He put the clown in his anenome display tank and it stayed there for a couple of weeks. During that time, the orange parts of my fish started to look almost dirty and he still looks like that months later.
He acts like a perfectly normal fish and shows no signs of sickness. I once heard that that will sometimes happen when a clown is housed with anenomes but that seemed kind of strange to me. Has anyone heard of this?
(By the way, I'm new to this BB & I'll be hanging around a lot, I suspect)
