Dirty little xenia

I've been in the salt hobby for 6-7 years but only as a fish only guy. I've got the live rock (covered in coraline) and now have started to collect a few corals. I've read that some people see them as a nuisance (due to the fast overtaking growth), but I love xenia. Finally to my question.....What do the threads mean when refering to the fact that xenias like dirty water. Is it an overfeeding thing or high nitrates? I've worked forever at mastering how to keep pristine water so now what? Sorry for being long winded.

most people tend to hv good success keeping xenia in nutrient-rich water. whether that is true, i dont really know. my xenia is growing like crazy, yet so r my clams and sps. i dont think my water is dirty or nutrient-rich at all. i think it really depends on the kind of xenia one gets.

would xenia have an issue with the salinity of the water?

the reefs, where we rob these things from, carries a salinity of .025-026. that should be your target.
