My sand is constantly getting dirty. I just got a stronger powerhead to get some cirrculation down there um...my parameters are good... and i have good clean up crew. Would a sand sifting star do me any good. Any suggestions?THANKS!

A sand sifting star would make it worse. they would eat a lot of the microfauna thats keeping it as clean as it is. try more nassarius snails so it gets turned over more.

Well i got 2 mouse cowrie snails (i think those were the ones) and i have seen them since i put them in. I'll stock up on those. I'm wondering maybe my clean up crew isin't large enough:
1 coral banded shrimp
2 reg snails
2 mouse cowrie snails
5 tiny blue legged craps
2 larger blue legged crabs
1 large red legged crabs( I lost a bunch. Bad starfish)
What do you think?

you should post your tank size and stuff in your profile so people dont need to ask.
but
how big is your tank?

I'm sorry, i never really knew you could do that to you profile. I'll do that. Anywho, its a 56 gal taller then it is longer (odd but cool shape) and i do us tap water. I dechlorinize it though.

yeah you should definately get more. my tanks smaller than yours, 30gal, i guess the rule is 2 snails per gallon the nassarius are my favorite they really help with diatoms. (the dirty sand is actually algae called diatoms). not so keen on the hermits but i do have about 25 jades. emerald crabs help with bubble and hair algae. blennys also help with hair. i have a fighting conch that helps keep the sand clean also but id say just go with a bunch of nassarius snails for your sand (get like 100 theyre pretty small but they REALLY help!) and the goby might help idk. i have a shrimpgoby but hes new so hes still in QT.
good luck cleaning the tank up!

no prob. BTW i forgot, if you are using tap water, even if you dechlorinize it, you should age it at least overnight with an airstone.also if you have the $, i highly suggest getting a pur water filter, or RO but its really expensive. i have a pur filter that was like 30$ (theyre for drinking water, you can get them at places like wal mart and target) and since using it my tank is so beautiful! i had really bad hair algae and after i started using it it cleared up fast, and my emerald crabs help too. i think it takes out some impurity in the tap water that makes the algae grow, cuz i kno for a fact tap makes it grow like crazy.

no its one of those ones you can put in your fridge, i run the water through it and pour it into a bucket which you then HAVE to aerate because like RO water it takes out all the oxygen. then you can add it to your tank and voila! also, it helps save on dechlorinizers because it removes chlorine, chloramines, and all kinds of things. my digital camera broke, but im looking for a pic on google.............
ok im not sure how to do pics so if this doesnt work the first time ill edit it...

heres how i do it-
1-fill the filter directly from my sink. put the filter on the counter while the water goes through the media. it takes like 1/2 hour, for the top to be completely filtered, but as the level in the top lowers i keep topping it off and emptying the bottom (filtered) water into a bucket untill i have enough.
2-i leave the bucket with the filtered water overnight with an airstone in it. if im adding salt for a change i do this before the airstone. i add it, stir it in, and then aerate.
3- i dont have an extra heater, its in my QT, but i guess at this point you should try to get the temp as close as possible to the temp of your tank. but i add mine cold, straight into the aquarium, sometimes with stress coat (wich helps slime coat but is irrelevant right now.) just like a regular water change.
