Disappearing Xenia

Ok so I bought some small Pulsating Xenia about 2 weeks ago. It was 2 stalks of it and one was splitting. They were both attached to a small piece of rubble. The splitting one attached to the rock where I put it so they were all kinda stuck together.
Well I put my roommate in charge of my tank while I was gone for a weekend. When I got back the Xenia that wasn't splitting was nowhere to be found (I looked for hours) and for some reason I had a huge green algae outbreak.
I was curious if anybody had any ideas as to what might have happened to it. I don't think anything I have would eat it. (2 clowns, damsel, watchman+mandarin goby, Sally Light-Foot, Hermits).
I did notice that there is a shiny whitish rock looking thing with some black on it at the front of my tank that looks like it could be the is about the same size as the xenia when its all closed up.
I just want to know if I need to worry about my tank crashing or what I need to do.

I did a test a couple hours ago and the only thing that is higher than normal is NO3 which is still only @ 20ppm. I am going to take my tank apart and try to find the Xenia tonight and thoroughly vacuum the CC and do another 10% H20 change.
