my clown has been developing these black blotches on his body. Lower fins are the most affected areas, but also behind his eye. Should i be worried? Is there any way to stop it? It is a tru perc by the way, have had him for 2-3 weeks. He is eating fine and parameters are all good.

DO check out the Diseased Fish FAQ for hyper-melaninization. It is scars from anemone/coral stings. I do believe that is what you have.

I was thinking that too.Although you didn't say if you had a anemone?

well he has been sitting on my zoos rock for a while. He sleeps on the zoos. Has anyone heard of a clown hosting zoos? It is about 50 polyps. The scarring from the zoos would make sense because the scarring is only on the bottom of him, not the top. Will this be a problem? Will it go away? It is not black ick.

Don't think there's anything you can do and I don't think it goes away. My femal has it also and I only have zoas, gsp, and a feather duster. Don't know what caused it.

Hi,
I put an anemone in my tank fo rmy clown, which he wouldn't go near, he instead started sleeping/hosting in my zoos, which he never had before. Within 2-3 days I noticed the black spots on his lower body. Must be the same thing you are dealing with.
