Dissappearing fish?

I fed my little guys when I went to work this morning and everything was find. When I came home this evening my percula clown was gone! No sign of a dead fish or anything, just gone. My wife and I were discussing how wierd that was so I came down to watch my tank and now my gramma basslet is missing. All I have left is my coral beauty and my sebea clown (and all of my critters). Has this ever happened to anybody before?????????

Nope. No sounds. I was a little premature. the royal gramma basslet re-appeared but the percula clown is still gone. Will a brittle star eat fish? I have a cleaner and coral banded shrimp but I don't think either one of them would do it.

A brittle and CBS will eat your dead clown. Best guess is your Gramma murdered your Clown and your clean up did what they do best.
Sorry about your clown.

Really? My little gramma ate my clown? That little son of a......
Looks like I need to give them some more space to swim! Well, at least I know I have a great clean up crew because there is absolutly no sign of any of him.

Gramma's can be aggressive little SOBs. They may look pretty, but they sure as hell don't act that way.

Yes a brittle star will eat fish thats how I lost all my fish, 2gobys and a perc clown I dont know how it does it but he does do it. I gonna have to trade him in for something.

Yes, some brittlestars, and it is impossible to predict what kind (though the green is a KNOWN predator in the wild) will catch and eat fish, as well as eating dead one's. It is important to spot feed brittlestars and not leave them just to scavenge for a bit of a flake or something, but this may not prevent the behavior. It is more typical for them to do this at night, when the fish "goes to sleep." BUT, the brittlestar would be quite distended after such a meal. Also don't rule out the coral banded, which are not nice little shrimp, IMO. Finally, don't rule out the fact that the fish died from other causes.

I have not seen my firefish, you guys know him as Richard, for 3 days now. And my serpent star looks very content and happy. I've seen Richard sleep at the bottom of the tank at night in the back where the star hangs out. I've searched all over around the tank, in the overflows, sump, etc., no sign of him or remains....
I think he got munched!

The tricky thing always is what happened first. They will surely eat a dead fish...so not having a body doesn't necessarily mean that they attacked a live fish. Firefish are also notorious jumpers, and often they are not found. I've moved tanks before and found a suprising number of jerky fish. Anyway, it is just important to keep in mind that there is a clean up crew in tanks for a reason...important not to jump to conclusions. Be sure to check water chems, etc, for any other possible issues.

steveoutla,
I would suggest interviewing each of the suspects. Make sure that you read the Gramma and Brittle Star their rights before the interview! If no one admits to the crime, I would purchase a gill print kit and look for any evidence of a struggle. This evidence might be in the form of stirred up gravel or Feces left at the scene. Witness might also provide some important information. However, with the witnesses livin in such a close proximity, they may feel intimidated to talk (Yeah, thats it... That is the real reason the fish won't talk). IMO, I have found that it is very difficult to get a conviction without a body.
