Distilled water & Algae Problems

I have a 50 gallon reef tank with a PC, great filters, skimmer etc. I was wondering if distilled is good for reef tanks. I have access to one at my university for free, and I heard it is alot better than any city water supply. I've been having problems with hair alage in my tank, I scrub it off my live rock and it grwos back really quick. I've tested my phosphates and they don't seem high so I'm kinda in the need for suggestions. I have my power compact on for 8 hours a day. I have 6 different corals and other inverts but they all seem happy except when the algae grows over them. Do UV sterlizers help with ahir alage, or just floating algae. Please help me if you can. Thank You very much

I would suggest a Lawnmower blenny or two. Emerald crabs also will tear into the green hair algea. I had the same problem but it was due to a huge upgrade in my lights. You said you have some inverts... Is it a clean up crew? I bought a clean up crew from this site and it helped.
I think you would be ahead of the game if you used distilled from the college as opposed to city water.
Good luck to you and I hope this helped...
