Hi, for those who dont know me, I am a senior in Landscape Architecture at the college of environmental science and forestry at Syracuse.
We are required to study abroad for one semester, which is not a typical abroad program. It is mostly independant and not at a university or college. We will have contacts from those places, but will not attend regular classes... for 14 weeks.
I have choosen Belize, and will be studying eco-tourism, focused on sustainable managemant practices, and reef restoration.

Belize is the main land. :)
As for affordable housing it shouldn't be a problem. It's a very poor country. I was only in Belize City, the capital, and I was amazed. In the city wasn't too 3rd world, but 1 mile outside housing was rough tin shacks. They had a few hotels in town. You can drink the water though! They are proud of that.
You couldn't have chosen a more beautiful place to go. The reefs are among the best in the world. Alot of dive magazines put them in the top 5. Beaches are pretty as are the jungles. If you can take a trip through the underground rivers.
You are so lucky.
