If so, no, I do not feel a basic sock would work quite as well though it would catch large particulates. True filter socks actually are a pretty fine weave. So I guess it depends on what you hope to accomplish.
I bet you could make your own though, using some felt (not the craft store kind, the fabric store kind). at least I would think you could.
