DIY foam live rock

So I heard on that other big forum about these guys that made some LR out of some sort of foam. They didnt go into much depth about it so I want to see what your opinions about it are. Do you think that it would be possible to do it? Has anyone ever tried this before? If anyone has pics of this that would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to be doing it in my 125 build. What it is ,is LR zip tied to egg crate and the the gaps filled in with Great Stuff expanding foam.Covered with epoxy and sand, crushed shells........
It looks awesome ,plus you can hide alot in it...Over flows,returns,......
Make caves structures, the possibilities are endless.

Yeah, I don't believe its rock.....from what I have seen they usually cover just the back wall of the tank making a 3-D background.

There are several different ways to do it. The foam is very boyent so depending on your application it is something you will battle. The one guy did use Real rock and fill the gaps with the foam. It looks absolutly amazing.

Well I jsut bought the supplies to do this to my 75g. you need DOW great stuff. You can use the pond stuff but it is black and hard to cover the black foam. Use the regualr DOW "great Stuff" in the red can. I will post some pics later tonight. I believe its z poxy. A thin epoxy that you mix with the CC and sand to cover the foam. Makes it look like rock. Also you can use rock salt on the foam while its wet to give it a texture. And when it dyrs you wash away the salt. I have read alot on this the past week. I ll post some pics and let me know if you have any other question.
