DIY lighting

I am wondering if I can buy a shop light fixture for my 125 from either Lowe's or Home Depot. Right now I have only a 50 watt bulb on my tank .... I'm kind of in a weird situation: I have the glass lids on my tank, and only a single light strip will fit on my tank. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would the shop lights work and could I put acintics in there? I can't even put my canopy back on because of my prizm skimmer because it is too tall.

Well you might want to try one of those fluorex worklights from walmart. I've been reading a lot of posts lately about those. Supposedly they give off good light for an aquarium (the proper spectrums).
I doubt you could put an actinic in there. But it's cheap and if it don't work just take it back to walmart. I'm sure you could get creative and find a way to rig it up though.

I bought a worklight from Lowes for $7. Then bought 2 quality bulbs. It works fine. I plan on buying another one and putting it in my canopy. To give me a total of 160 Watts of NO on my 55 gallon tank. Since it seems NO is better quality light watt per watt. So far with 2 blubs Ive got some mushrooms, button polyps and a toadstool. They all seem to be doing fine. I was looking under the the hoods at the LFS and they did the same thing on all there FO tanks.
