DIY liverock ?????

I made some live rock out of type I portland cement and oyster shells. It was an old recipie I found on line a long time ago. the ratio that i used was 4/25 as the recipie sead the rock is vary brital after it hardens I am hoping that after i cure it for 30 or40 days it will be stronger if any one has any info for me that would be helpful i would love to hear from you also i want to know if i can make the rocks different colors by adding dyes or some thing

Don't mess with dyes, no idea what chemicals you may be putting in the tank. I've made LR in the past, you need to do 6-8 weeks of freshwater curing, then put in saltwater with a frozen shrimp or two, wait another 4-6 weeks and put it in the main tank. It will take a few months for the coralline to migrate to the rock, but after 6 mos. it will look like a piece of Fuji. Make sure you have at least 2-3 watts per gallon in the display, and scrape a little of the coralline (you must have some good LR in the tank to seed the homemade LR) with a razor blade every few days, it will grow my friend!
