DIY metal halide question

I want metal hallides, but dont want to spend the money.

Its probably a magnetic ballast, and a very low temp bulb around 4000K maybe. THis is unsuitable for a reef tank. You need at least 10000K for a reef tank. Magnetic ballasts can be noisey, hot, and bulbs dont last as long. It also doesnt appear to come with a reflector.

Yeah it's the M58 ballast and yes they can be quite warm, have used them in the past and never had an issue with noise, maybe a slight hum, but hardly noticeable, but have to strongly disagree with the bulbs not lasting as long.....Where's that info come from?????? Maybe you have it confused with overdriving a SE bulbs with an M80 HQI ballast???
