DIY Overflow

Has anybody ever tried to drill a hole in a power filter fit it with a bulkhead and tubing and making that an overflow? Would it work?

Power filters "draw" water from the tank, they do not siphon it.
In order for an overflow to work properly, it has to siphon. Drawing water in would create the whole "use a pump to bring water out of the tank then another one to return it" type of scenario considered many times by aquarists. All it would do is flood.
Sorry to disappoint.
