DIY Protein Skimmer for 55gal Questions

I have been debating on doing this for a little while now, but am unsure of how to make one that will be effective. I could really use some assistance on design. I believe the BASIC concept is you need an inlet to let the water in and a pump to aerate the water to create the bubbles that will go up into a smaller tube and then into a collection dish and then you need an outlet for the water to exit. As I said this is BASIC, if I am incorrect please correct me and any assistance is appreciated. Thank you in an advance.

I have also done that but what I am finding is you can see a video of them but not told how they are made or any updates on how it is doing further down the line. I figured the best place would be from the forum members that have done them and can advise how it has done since created.

Wow building a protein skimmer, that's ambitious. You should check Craigslist, there's a ton of people selling their tanks and stuff, I've gotten some great deals. I bet you could pick one up on the cheap.

DIY skimmers are done.....Good planning making the skimmer efficient and productive is key.....Skimmer body, plus contact time, and good pump selection are key elements.....

Go with a design and run with it. If you can understand the principles of skimmer design, it's absolutely possible.
I got a one horse power air blower I could use for one heck of a skimmer. Lol
