DIY Refugium with miracle mud

I fired up the refugium today after the miracle mud arrived. I used a large rubbermaid container and am pumping in from the sump and gravity returning there too. Ecosystems says to use 1000-2000 gph. I tried a mag 1200. NO WAY!!!!. I'm using a 1 1/2 in return drain and it couldn't keep up. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> Put a ball valve in and reduced the flow down. It seems to be OK now. Ecosystems says to run for a week before planting any algae so I'll keep you posted on how it works. <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

Did you put the ball valve on the return? Just a bit of a warning, I think this can reduce the life of your pump. Anyone care to verify?

NO, it's on the pump side. I've done this in the past and had no problems
