DIY Sump/Ref

I was just wondering if i got the right idea here..I am looking to build a sump/ref for my 30gallon reef..A draft pic of what i have an idea for is below...The size would be a 10 gallon tank with acrylic dividers...Is it better to go with PVC tubing or soft tubing..The overflow will be rated at 300gph and the return pump at 230 or 295gph will these work.. and does my overall setup look alright..

I would run the water through the skimmer before the fuge. This will get the water cleaner I think. Here is my sketch....your overflow and pump should be fine although you want a slow flow through the fuge to give it the max contact time.
