I was wondering if i could buy the sockets and bulbs at the hardware store and make my own retro kit. My local store has the stuff i think it will take to make it i was just wondering is anyone has done this. I was thinking of doing Four bulbs (one or two being actinic). And if so what corals do you think i could keep.

I don't know if a hardware store will carry waterproof endcaps (which you will want). You will also want individual reflectors too.
Check out some of the online vendors for complete T5 retrofits. Reefgeek is a good place to start.

i can get the water proof cap and slr at the LFS what about the rest ?

if you have or buy a t5 ballast you have to see if they need shunted or unshunted end caps agree with wango tango reef geek
