I saw the thread from March but no one replied who actually used/uses them.
This is what I understand about them:-
-They are organic carbon, designed to "feed" the bacteria in the sub straight and what not, to accelerate the break down of nitrates into gasses and also provide a food source for coral.
- Prior to this new technology, this was done with vodka, and/or sugar and vinegar and by putting these pellets in a reactor you now have more consistancy/control for dosing organic carbon.

This is what is fuzzy:
-I have heard that they can totally destroy your tank, for example if they stop tumbling they can turn into sulfur? Really?
-I have also seen that there are a few different kinds of bio pellets that are made out of totally different materials. How does this work? Is one better than the other?
-I have also heard that you do not want to use them in conjunction with a GFO reactor, it will start a cataclysmic reaction or something that will be really bad! Really?
I was thinking of adding this technology because I want to have the best water quality as possible and if this will help, why not?
-55 gallon mixed reef with 65lbs of live rock and a three inch sand bed.
-4 bulb t5 light, 2x aticnic and 2x 10K
-fuge with some cheto and culopra, some LR and LS and they are lit up by LED's
-skimmer rated to up to 90 gallons
-8 inch x 8 inch ATS hanging in the fuge as well lit by a 65k florescent utlilty bulb
-ATO with a little kalk in it.
-Heater
- GFO reactor
- 1/10 HP Chiller
I have not done a water change for about a month now and everything is looking great except my xania is closed up and has been for a few weeks
I tested last night and a few things were off
Hanna Checker:
Calcium 520
Alkalinity 13
Phosphates: .02
Red Sea:
Iodine .06
Magnesium: 1500
API:
Nitrates >.02
Nitrites >.02
Ammonia >.02
Milwaukee PH Meter 8.0
ATS Refractometer 1.026
I have not added anything but the Seachem Reef Vitamins and amino acids weekly
I add .5 ml of my Vodka, sugar, vinegar mix a day
I feed spectrum marine pellets and sprialina daily
I have 4 fish: Scooter blenny, yellow tang, yellow, tail blue damsel (trying to catch) and a pec. clownfish.
I have significant CUC, a bunch of assorted snails, hermit crabs, peppermint shrimp, cleaner shrimp, emerald crab.
Will these 4 parameters eventually normalize or should I do a water change? I just started using kalk in my ATO. I was using Seachem buffer, but that will raise the Alk. The Kalk with raise PH and calcium but lower alkilinity. I just need the corals to pop a little more and start absorbing the calcium.
WIth that; has anyone used bio pellets and seen more stability on their water column?
Thank you in advance!
