Do fish recognize us?

I have a mated pair of GSM's and they currenly host an LTA.
The male rarely leaves the anemone, maybe for a spot of food. The female leaves and hangs in the rocks but comes back to check in frequently. When I come near the tank,it does not seem to bother her. We had some friends over last night and she walked up to the tank and the female flew out of the rocks and was very mad....
I guess fish actually recognize us?
