I just purchased a tank from a friend that's moving
it's been setup for a couple years
it's a custom acrylic tank (about 46-48 gal with a 20gal sump about half full)
protien skimmer, live rock, live sand, a few coral's, some hermit crabs, snails, and an angry clown
is my tank small enough to be in the "nano" section?

nano, is less than thirty i believe. 1-5 is pico. I consider 6-20 nano. And anyhing between 20-30 i call "a small tank"

I'd love to go about 2-4x this size next time.

here's the only pic I have so far,
it's a crappy camera phone pic
tank is a custom acrylic 46 or 48 gal with some decent lighting
has a 20gal sump, protien skimmer, 50lbs (or so) of live rock, I think the "sand" is crushed coral
it's set up as a "rief" tank
got some "verts" blue legged and scarlet hermits, couple kind of snails
also have a few corals (a large mushroom, and a few small ones)
I still havn't identified everything yet
along with a lone (and angry maroon or cinimon) clown
(he killed the 3 damsels I put in)

Nice. At first I was wondering what 'rief' and 'verts' was, then I saw where you are from. WASHINGTON. All you poople are very strange up there. Kidding.

That is a nice tank. What lighting? Tall enough tank to have rock climbing all the way up the back and covered in ricordeas.

these are ricordeas or as most call them 'rics' click here
yippee!
word of advice, get rid of the crushed coral and put normal sand it catches too much gunk and messes with your water chemistry.
also- if you didnt tell us your tank was 40gal or more we would have never known lol! Id say your tank has many of the same qualities as many nanos here

welcome!
Lets get you loaded with some corals

happy reefing
Jess

Welcome to the wonderful hobby of reef-keeping then. Ricordeas are a corallimorpharian species of such diverse and beautiful colors of all the corallimorpharians. There are basically 2 types, the ricordea yuma amd the ricordea florida. The ricordea yuma hails from the pacific and the ricordea florida comes from the Caribbean.
Florida is easier to keep than yuma and usually not as expensive. Theya can also prosper in lighting range from PC to Mh, and yuma also, though yuma, being a deeper water corallimorpharian needs slower acclimation to higher light levels. There is much information on both available to the hibbyist and many keepers here and on other forums that will be more than willing to give lots of good information on these and many more corals available to the average reef-keeper.
No intent to take over your thread, just would like to show a few pics of the colors and difference in floridas and yumas.
FLORDIA

YUMA

And with the lighting you have these are great and zoanthid/palythoa also, which are probably the most diverse of all corals in color.

hey guys,
so,
I've been shoping for a bigger tank,
I actually took some measurements on my current tank. it's smaller than I thought.
(it's a 38gal)
still not a nano by most of your accounts.
it's been pretty good
the clown is gone,
not has:
Blue Hippo Tang
Dragon Goby (Sleeper Banded Goby )
Midas Blenny
still have the Mushrooms, found a few more
also have a good sized Toadstool Leather (and I'm picking up some "Finger Leather" today after work)
the only real issue I've been having is a few fish disspearing, and Phosphates are staying high I've dosed with PhosBuster and shifted to only using RoDi water for water changes and top off's (I get it free at my LFS)
hopefully this goes away.
I'm currently looking for a 75 or 90 gallon tank (I've decided to rearange my living room, and I think I can support a 48" tank)
I'm probably gonna prettymuch go "all out" with pretty decent gear and lighting
I havn't decided what to do with my current tank,
I'm trying to convince my roommate he wants to buy it from me (on the cheep) and put it in his room, he really likes LionFish, maybe he could get a Dwarf Lion, maybe some kind of angler too
or I may try and sell it (help someone else get into the hoby)
and as far as the avatar,
I've got a 2005 Pontiac gto (with nitrous), I've got my purge coming out of my hood scoops too
