Hi every one :)
I am new to the forum,

I have been in to salt water and fresh water tanks for over 20 years.
I decided to set up my reef tank finally in my new home after moving in 1 1/2 yeas ago, I have a 92 glass corner tank, I custom made my light hood .
I have two 24" VHO actinic and one 400 watt 14k MH, I started out with just mushrooms and a couple of fish and one cleaner shrimp, the tank has been running now for over three months.
the problem is that all my mushrooms are melting, I have put charcoal in to clean the water some, I talk to the fish store that sold me every thing . and he now tells me that I have to much light for the mushrooms and that is why they are melting ,
I could of had a fit with this guy
, he sold me the lights and the mushrooms and now I have 4 $$$ no mushroom rocks, and all he could tell me is " I was just thinking -reef- more light the better, "
I told him we wanted mostly mushrooms in the tank because they are easier
so now he tells me my light are great for corals but not for mushrooms, but that I could put the mushrooms on the bottom ( what mushroom they all melted  )
any way what do you guys think, I never herd of having to much light for your reef. the problem I thought was heat, more light more heat so you put the most light that you can control the heat.
all the fish are doing well even the cleaner shrimp

thanks for your time

I don't think you have too much light. Perhaps you have the mushrooms placed very close to the light (E.G. near the surface) but moving them down should fix it, if it's light related.

I did put them lower sunday, I guess I will leave the 400 MH, do you guys think that a 250watt MH 14k would be better for a all around reef for my 92 corner tank?

If you aren't sps'n I would either go with a single 250w 20k or a 4ft 6-8 bulb t5 fixture...
