do I have to use frag plugs?

i was wondering why I see pictures of tanks with frag plugs all the time. why not stick the corals ect right onto the rock surface?
I just want to try to get away from using frag plugs onmy first tank. i will be cycling it very soon, and have hopes of a beautiful reef one day w/out little gaudy frag plugs scattered allover.

nope you dont have to use plugs... i use live rock rubble i keep a small pile of rubble behind my larger rock in the DT. so when i make frags all i have to do is grab some rubble and glue the new frags to it i usually keep it in my frag tank for acouple weeks then put the frag into the DT
