Hello everyone. I am brand new, I am getting my first saltwater tank. A friend is going to help me set it up she has a regular saltwater tank and no chiller. but I want the Nano cube and have seen alot of talk about Nano's and chillers. So do the fans in the top do the trick, or do I need to buy an additional chiller for the cube. any advice is welcome. thanks.

I live in St. Louis MIssouri. Low 100's in summer but very humid. Our family room is in the basement which always stays cooler than the rest of the house. I would like to put the tank down there since that is where we spend most of our time. I have heard some thing about it being harder to controll the tank levels with out much natural light. However there are two small block windows one almost directly below where the tank will go, so i'm gonna give it a try.

what kind of lights will you have on it? I have a 24g Nano-cube with MH lights and im not running a chiller. Im thinking once summer come i may need to invest in one tho.
Just when u set it up keep a close eye on temp throughout the day

First impression is that if it's in a basement, you'll probably be okay.
You'll almost have to wait and see. The nice thing is that if you do need one, it'll be marginal, so a small solution such as an iceprobe will probably work, and they aren't nearly as expensive as traditional chillers.

I have had my 28g Nano set up for about a month.
My temps are in a big swing.
I have my lights on for 7 hours and my tank goes from 77.5 to 81.5......
I have the standard 150w MH bulb.
Not sure if this is typical.
Is a 4 degree swing too much in 7 hours?

Yes. I think it is too much if you have a 1 degree swing in 24 hours or 48, I'm not sure which one tho.

I will be running MH lights, I will look into the ice probe thing. thank you to all who responded to my questions. I'm sure to have more during the set-up process.
