Do I need a Protein Skimmer??

Hey guy's and gals..sorry for all of the questions but i'm a noob....I got a 12 gal. tank on Sunday I will be using for Fish only I also bought a 24 gal. today for mainly coral...my question is do I need a protein skimmer for this size tank or is it not necessary??...thank you in advance. ***)

always a pluss to have one. there is a thread right now that has pictures of members protein skimmer and what they pull out.. might want to give that a look and then decide if u should get one or not.

Protein skimmers are nice to have, but are not a necessity.
With a regular water change schedule, appropriate stocking of fish and inverts, and appropriate feeding portions, you can have a very successful reef without one.

Once you see the nasty that skimmers pull out of the water you will never go without one again.

Ill hold out for a little while as I have nothing in any of my tanks yet...but this morning i woke up and i noticed there were small paritcles in my 12 gal. the water is still very clear but i ntocied the particles is that normal??
