do i need my filter

i have a emperor filter and i want live sand. if the sand gets stirred up will it destroy the filter? if i get rid of it what should i use

Chances are that you won't stir up your sand enough that a large amount would get sucked into your filter. But if you did....the filter would be ok. Thats what its there for, to suck crap out of the water.
