Do I need to get new water

Hi,
I am ready to do a water change and may need to get new water?
I bought 40 gallons of SW from my LFS last night. I poured it all in a large tub so I could warm it to 80 before the change.
The heater suction cups came undone in the middle of the night and the heater floated to the top. buy cheap & get cheap
I got up this morning and without even thinking, I reattaced the heater and went about my way.
Problem: The night before, I put on some hand lotion. I did not wash my hands before reattaching. Do I need to start over and get new water to be on the safe side?
:notsure: I remember reading some crazy stories about tanks crashing becasue of small stupid things. Do not want to be adding this to the list.
There is no oily film on the top of the water.
My hands felt dry, meaning the lotion soaked in over night but could still smell the lotion on my hands.....
Thanks for the help.

I don't know thats a tough call. Was it anti-bact lotion? Could you possibly run a filter with some carbon just to be safe?
I hear ya about the stupid stuff, man thats tough prolly be OK but you just never know.
Sorry couldn't be more helpful

Do you have corals in your tank? If you dont you probably be fine, just have some carbon and do a water change. I woundn't worry.

Are you saying you put the lotion on at night, went to bed, woke up and stuck your hand in the water. If that's the case I wouldn't worry a bit about it.
If it's not the case, I probably still wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure we have stuff like this on our hands just about every time we get into the aquarium no matter how clean we think we are.

I would really not worry about this too much, but would certainly run carbon as suggested above. I think the amount of contamination you're likely to introduce here is pretty darned miniscule. Maybe if you've got really sensitive stuff in there (hard corals, anemones) I might be a little more concerned...but really, I don't think this is a huge deal. I'll be shocked if anything comes of it.
