I have a striped puffer and he has not even grown since i got him, which was in early may.How big do they grow? How fast do they grow?I got back from vaction and this one restrauant had a HUGE star and srtiped puffer!
It really depends on how much and how often you feed them. I got mine about 4 months ago and he was 3 inches. He is now about 5 inches. Just give it some time and I am sure that he will. Scott
many fishes don't grow much if they are kept in an overcrowded/small tank. 55 is not that big for a puffer. you also have to meet their nutritional requirements in order to promote their proper growth. there are also many environmental factors that affect growth rate. it is likely that your puffer will not grow as big as the one you saw at the restaurant. if you want your puffer to grow to its full potential, then prepare to invest in at least 300 gallon tank or bigger. i have a map puffer, which is known to grow to 25" in the wild. i have 180, but i know it won't be big enough in the long run. so i'm in the process of ordering a 500g custom-made tank. i know i cannot replicate the size of their natural habitat 100%, but at least i'm trying.
CG IS right...puffers need to fed daily, and small ones even more.
No eaty, no growy.
They also need meaty, crustacean food, perferably raw shrimp and crab, if possible with the shell on, which adds calcium and wears down the ever growing teeth.
Striped puffers are also largely nocturnal and the shyest of the Arothrons IMO, meaning they won't fight for food and may not come out if your lights are too bright as well.
