Do you have any idea how to work this timer?

I got this timer (www.intermatic.com) from lowes and I have no idea how to set it. I either mis-placed the directions or it did not come with any.
Its the typical pull the little plastic thing out at the times you want.
This is what I am doing
Its not in the wall and I am holding it setting the times. I turn the center dile to the current time. Then I pull out the off tab I want and then the on tab then I plug it in and all it does is turn my powerhead on. Problem is, the time that I wanted it to turn off has already passed so do I need to do this tomorrow before it needs to turn off?

Check that you don't have the manual on/off switch on.

Yea i went to the website and tried to find that model number and just gave up!
