I simply do not have enough room for a refugium under my stand, and my sump is small and already houses 2 big pumps with a an external plummed skimmer.
I want to just add a light kit over the sump and place some Cheatomorpha inthe sump between the pumps to get the nutrient export like a fuge. Do ya think this would work?
Anyone using this set up, please let me know!
Thanks

Depends on the flow of your sump and the design if the cheato will just get blown through the system or not.
In theory yes that would work, but there are many variables that could affect that.

I would fear the chaeto would get sucked into a pump..it's very bouyant.
Also...to be effective the chaeto needs low flow{hang time}..so it can absorb the nutrients.

Well I have sponge sleeves on each pump so nothing will get in the pumps. I also hooked up a hangin clip on lamp to the tank stand and put a 35watt 6500k screw in bulb in the unit. The bulb is pretty cool, it comes with a balast built in to the bulb.
For flow I figured the overflow as well as the reverse flow from the pumps would be fine.
I just want to grow the Chaeto to keep Phos and nitrates down.

I was gonna to put some chaeto in my sump. But, with the lights on down there, I did not want algae to grow all over my sump. I just hate to take out all my equipment to clean it.

Well the whole purpose of putting the Chaeto in the sump is to reduce nuisence alge and grow only the good Chaeto. This is accomplished by it lower the Phosphates in the tank.
