Does A Scooter Blenny Need QT'd?

I just moved my naso tang out of QT and into her new home of a 150. Tiger jaw went into the reef 55. So I chanced it and bought a scooter blenny at ***** today and placed him in the QT tank. There are lots of pods in there for him to eat. But can they get ick? Should I still QT for 4-6 weeks? I'm hoping that there would be enough for him to eat for 4 weeks. But this is the first fish I bought from ***** so don't want to take any chances with my other fish. So thought I would ask the people here on the forum.
Thanks to all that reply.

I have personally never known of a marine fish from that store to not get ich. And with a scooter, it'd be hard to see that's for sure. Good luck.

Emeral.....If you can get him to eat some frozen food (mine likes and eats mysis) you should be in good shape, just in case you see ICH and have to do HYPO....Otherwise, if TEX is correct and it has ICH you will be introducing it into your DT.

Our ***** has REALLY shaped up, otherwise I wouldn't even try it. I will keep him in QT for 4 weeks, there are lots of pods in there and will try to get him to eat frozen also. The tank he will go in is a 55 reef that has been going for over a year, so should have enough food for it if it doesn't eat frozen. I get mixed reviews on them, some say they can't get ich, others say they can be carriers and others say they can.....
I'll be safe and QT. Thanks

the scooters have the ability to get ich, mandarins cannot because they have a slime covering them, instead of scales.

I work at ***** and just to be honest as a fellow fish keeper, I wont even buy fish from ***** and I get 20% off! I can tell you they dont do freshwater dips after acclimating or run any type of disease prevention in there tanks. I've worked at 2 different stores, one of which just floated the bag and released the fish
. Also the care level given to fish is often not the greatest. Put it this way, on my days off I wonder if anyone even thought about feeding my fish. If you do buy fish here again, might wanna ask a lot of questions. I just recently became the aquatic specialist at my store and have started to change the way they do things. I try to personally help all the customers interested in purchasing SW fish and volunteer all the info about the considered purchase such as my acclimating procedure, what the fish has been eating, and how long the fish has been in our system. I also ask the customer for info about their system and inhabitants to ensure the fish will fit in nicely and comfortably. Hopefully the employees at your ***** are as caring as I am when it comes to their fish, if they are I think your in pretty good shape but still need to QT for 4 weeks
Anyways, I hope this aids in your future purchases

It does not matter if your LFS QT's things for a month before selling them. This is your tank. Your pride and joy. Do you know what a hassel it is to tear down your tank to hypo your fish? ALWAYS qt new purchases.

Oh I do QT everything, corals, liverock, new fish. I just wasn't sure about the scooter, I knew the Manderins were safe.
And there is ONE guy at our ***** that has saltwater fish. He has really cleaned up the act there. They won't sell fish on the day they come in now. And I would ONLY buy from them when they would be the only one's in the QT tank. When I bought it yesterday, the gal that caught it didn't even ask me if I had a salt tank. Didn't ask if I knew how to take care of him or anything. I do feel bad for the fish, as most people don't research before they buy. I knew scooters most likely will only eat pods, which my tanks should have a lot of them by now. My LF sold me one when my tank was only a MONTH old. Me not knowing....and guess what? It died.
Our LF doesn't do freshwater dips or acclimate either. Just temp. and throw them in.

So all of my fish I get go into QT.

As stated, I would QT the scooter blenny as well. Though they are considered to be in the same family as the mandarin, I would still rather be safe. Many scooters will take to frozen/prepared foods a lot easier than a mandarin. That should not be too much of a concern.

Yeah, I just got on to someone who sold a puffer the day it came in. Unfortunatley, the customer was back looking for a remedy saying he wasn't doing good. I didnt have anything to say except it should not have been sold. The puffer has since died
! But the customer has come back to me, asked questions about other fish, and bought some hermits. I assume i made a pretty good impression. I guess such as this guy at your *****. Dont worry, well get it cleaned up!

So far so good, he is quite the little character. He is definately eating the frozen food now, fights with himself in the glass. They really are a very pretty fish. No sign of ick, although would be hard to see on him. But he looks really really good. I'm just so happy that he is eating :jumping: I'll keep you updated on him. Thanks all.
Can't wait until he can go in the 55. I resently put a tiger jaw in there, after being in QT for 6 weeks. And he is such a fun fish also. Love their orange eye brows and big eyes.

I am very glad that your fish are doing so well!!!! Don't be tempted to move the blennie early. They are resistant to ich, but can get it. Just wait out the 3 weeks. I am very glad that he is eating frozen for you! :happyfish
LOL never heard of a fish with "eyebrows"!!!
