does a skimmer need a pump?

well this is why i am asking this
i know for most cases they do
but
im going to be getting a tank and overflow with sump underneath
building it all
my question is is that my overflow is like 600gph
can i hook the drain right to my skimmer so i wont have to use a pump?
or do i absolutely need the pump

if the skimmer doesn't come with a pump, then you will have to get one for it.

What type of skimmer are you referring too? Yes you can feed the skimmer directly from the drain like you mentioned, but you will still need a pump to drive the skimmer once the water is inside the skimmer body....

i don thave a skimmer im looking into a octopus tho
