Does a skimmer require a sump?

I am selling my Prizm skimmer because it's not big enough for the new tank. Do I need a sump to have the skimmer under the tank, or are the pumps that come with them powerful enough to just set the skimmer underneath and plumb it to the back of the tank. I don't think I have enough clearance behind for anyother hangon besides the Prizm.

I have a Remora pro by Aqua C. I love it. It skims great. It is a hang on and only needs 3 1/4
imch of space, It is good for up to 120 gallons.

what exactly do you mean? How many gallons if your tank and how many gallons is the sump. There are skimmers you can hang on the sump or incorp. into the sump. If space is really an issue, I recommend the Berlin Hang on.

First, the Prizm is already sold. I have a 137 gallon tank and currenly don't have a sump. Was wondering if I can use a skimmer under my tank, or if I have to have a hangon since I don't have a sump.

If you don't have a sump and you want to use a skimmer under your tank you can do so, however you pump has to be stronger then usual because of the extra distant the water has to travel, but if you don't use a sump, you will still have to have the pump and the tubing in the tank, and it will be showing unless you cover it up with LR.
