My 55 gallon acrylic tank needs to be scraped every day, If i dont scrub for a week you cant even see through the glass
i have 35-45 lbs lr
ls
no sump
biowheel filtration
rio 2500 head
protein skimmer
lighting- 130 watt comp flor day 130 watt actinic

My glass qt that only has about 1 cup ls and no lr is algae less. Is there a connection between acrylic having more algae and glass not?? Any help would be appreciated

I don't know about saltwater (as I'm just starting). But with my freshwater tanks, my glass seemed to get more algae than my acrylics, which is why I switched to Acrylic. BUT, I just got a 125 gallon glass tank, because the acrylic was $400 more!
That's just my experience though, someone may have a different one.

Its not because of the light transmission. Acrylic is more succeptible to scratching than glass. Because of this some of the micro scratches (ones barely visible) that can develop are prone to algae growth, so when you look at an acrylic tank it may appear that the algae is growing faster on the walls when in actuality what is happening is after the tank is scraped small particles of algae remain in the microscratches. The algae regrows faster since it is already established.

At the warehouse I worked at the glass tanks had to be cleaned every week and the acrylics every 2 weeks.
