Yeah!!! You can have almost everything with T5's or VHO's that you can under MH...except for the harder to keep Acros. I have VHOs and my Montipora Digitata is growin like crazy!!!!!!!! I did have an Orange Monti. Cap but something went wrong with my tank and I lost 3 corals...that one died. Montiporas will do just fine under those lightings. I know that Green Slimers do well under VHO's...I'm sure they'd do fine under T5. LTA should be fine too.

Not sure how many watts my lights have. VHO's work great...everyone I know in town has them and all have some sort of SPS and they thrive under VHO's.

Just a little info i thought might help, i have the nova extreme with t5 bulbs, 2 10k 2 actinic blue and 3 moon lights and i love it. i am currently keeping pom pom xenias, green and brown star polyps, brown wood polyps, two types of button polyps, frog spawn, a rock anenomie, and some blue xenias and they are all doing very well. i was just using floresant bulbs that came with the tank and everything was living, but not opened as full as they are now. i have had this system for 6 months and i love it i have a 65 gal and it works great for me.

what do you think of this set up?
PFO VHO retrofit consists of
a 4 bulb ballast with endcaps, cords, etc
Then
2 1000K Bulbs
2 Super Atinic bulbs
The price would be around 270 plus shipping?
What do I need for VHOs or T5s
ballast, encaps, reflector, wires, bulbs, anything else?

T-5 blow VHO out of the water. the reason being, is that you can individually reflect each bulb and hence triple their PAR value. do a search for T-5 growth comparisons on yahoo or google and you can see some amazing examples of everything you would want to keep. if done right, T-5 can sustain any light sustaining organisms in tanks under 30" tall.

What do you mean by individually reflect each bulb? Just a reflector for each bulb? or something different?

Tek and aquactinic seem to be the most popular T-5 choices.
