no issues with my tank. just wondering if its that great of a filter like i have read
IMO, it is no silver bullet. It works because it uses the most agressive algae. It creates a different eco system when used without a skimmer, a much more complex food chain is built. If you are using the true "Turff Scrubber" you will have the brownish red turff algae and it is very hardy. It can go through a power outage with out blinking an eye. So in that sense it is much more hardy then most macros. Cheato can tolerate power loss but not as well.
It has been running on my tank for almost a year now. I love the simplicity of it, the maintence of it, the food web it creates, ect. However I feel that I have hit a wall and I can't seem to get any better. Maybe that is my fault, IDK right now. I will have to look at it more in depth.
There are lot of folks out there that are running them, they may or may not come forward. There is a crazy amount of success stories out there on them as you mentioned. I am not one of them........not yet. If your ADD lets you look through the thread, it is very interesting on how the OP (Santa Monica) has changed his "tune" if you will. There seems to be this big turn of events on the subject. IDK, maybe that is because the latest craze of them (turff scrubbers)doesn't grow true turff. They are growing HA for the most part.
If you have a couple of bucks kicking around, then build one. See for yourself what happens. They don't cost but 20 bucks to build, and that is generally expensive depending on what you have laying around in your fish gear.
I say this but, I don't hold any responsibility for your tank. You think you have a good system now, if you built one, I would bet you would grow algae. However on the back side it seems that a small cyano problem occurs. It will hang out for a while then go away. Once again, It would seem.
I hope this helps, or gets you thinking some more. Have fun. That's why were all here, right?
