Does anybody know much about these? Found this on ----. Curious if it is good or not. I am looking at upgrading my lights on my 80 gallon tank and don't want to spend too much initially.
Thanks!

My tank currently has 3 fish; sailfin tang, blue regal tang and a clownfish. Inverts include cleaner shrimp, camelback shrimp, choco chip star, snails and red leg crabs.
I am looking to upgrade the lights so that eventually I can add some corals (will come back here to discuss that when I get that itch).
The light listed above goes for $80 plus about $20 shipping. Trying to convince my wife that this would be a nice x-mas gift. Moneu is very tight right now, so definately trying to keep cost down (i.e. can't afford MH or others).
Thanks!

Its a decent setup for the price. I use it on my fish only tank. The only thing is that you have to replace the blue bulbs it comes with for some real actinic 03 bulbs if you want to keep corals. If you dont want to replace it, then you can keep most mushrooms and other low light corals just fine.

Marty-i got that same setup from there and it seems to be good, but i would have to agree with jed, the bulbs would need to be changed for true actinics.
Jed-could those bulbs help algae growth in my tank, i have changed the bulbs bc i also have vho's?

Are you asking if those bulbs will help with growth of macro algae or unwanted algae? To that I am not usre. I do know that those bulbs have very little par which means it is useless for photosynthesis. Another thing is that the light blue color gives the tank a color that I dont like.
Ask Kip about the differences between those bulbs. I think he's done the most research on them. All I know is that my coral looked so much better under the new real actinic bulbs and so did the tank. The only thing that I would say was thriving under the old lights was my mushrooms.

I checked at ---- and it looks like the seller is currently out. He listed qty 6 a few days ago and now all are gone. Hopefully he will put up some more soon. I am hoping the wife will let me purchase one.
