does anyone use Penguin Power Filter 150B

I've got this on my tank, and was wondering if anyone uses both filter slots. If so, what do you put in the other slot? I've been contemplating using it, but don't know what would be good to put in there. The filter cartridges don't seem to use a lot of carbon, would adding more carbon be a good idea?

This filter is more geared to freshwater tanks. I used one back then. For saltwater tanks they splash and create salt creep in doing so. The slots are made to put 2 of the same cartridges in. The carbon is enough..It really doesn't take much carbon to get the desired effect...as long as the water passes through, it filters. ASAP you should change your filter method to a more useful one.
I don't drill tanks...I use 2 canister filters for my 90g...a canister would be better than the penguin you are using. JMO

thanks for the info! I'm just using this one because its what came with my tank combo. What size canister filter would be good for a 30 gallon tank? And what kind would you recommend?

They make canister filters for tank size, just look on the box at any fish supply store...get one the next size up..over kill is best when it comes to filters.
I use the Cascade brand..fluval was pretty good, but the cascade is easier to maintain..there is one with the name marine in it...I never used one of those. Stay away from the little cheap round ones..they vacuum lock and it is a real challenge to do any maintenance, I would fight that thing for half an hour to get the top off to clean it. I don't remember the name of it...but it was green and round..fluval and cascade are square. The marine one is round as well..after my first experience I stay away from round canisters.
Keep a good scheduled maintenance..a canister is completely self contained so you want it clear of nitrates if you have inverts, regular maintenance will prevent any problems...I have used one for freshwater 30 years and saltwater for 4.
