just for talk i was wondering if anyone out there uses well water for there tank? i have used ww for years but i do check the water at work. i run hardness test and akalinty tests too see where the water stands. i work for a sanitary water dept. just wanted to see what others use and think. where i live there are no city water lines, but i have seen some of the water that is produced around the country and i would take good well water any day. trust me on this. i would not drink some of the water produced so why should i put my fish in it!

the same goes for well water, i used to maintain water on several levels, (i worked for pool companies, i woked for water conditioning companies, i have worked for water companies and have even worked with health agencies on this mattter),and did all kinds of testing, and i have to tell you that well water is not any better, the chlorine and flouride is it, but in those amounts, it is not any worse for your system than alot of the stuff in well water, TRUST ME ON THIS, and iron is not good for you in mineral form, it should come from animals or plants, not raw minerals in the water, AND THE MINERALS ARE JUST THE SURFACE
ps, i would not drink any of it, without at least an ro unit hooked up either, another note, i am an avid helath freak, lifting and dieting and all, so i do get my info from other areas other than my boss or sales

I use well water, and haven't had any problems. I mix it and run a ph on it for a few days before a change. Got coraline growing all over.

I too use well water. It is filtered through a household water softener then sink installed carbon units that dispense through those little extra faucets.
I know I should be using an RO unit but the water tastes terrible from them and the tank seems to thrive without it.
Suggestions for improving the tast of RO would be appreciated. I do know that some companies fortify RO with minerals for taste, but this seems impractical/impossible to do myself.

your water tastes terrible from the ro unit??????????? maybe it should be checked
there should be no flaavor at all, just cleaner, now the conditioner on the other hand, can leave a hint of salt but is still better for you than well water
